2014 Subaru Forester US-Version

As with all previous Forester models, the 2014 version comes standard with Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, a distinction from competitive models that come with front-wheel drive as standard and offer all-wheel drive as an extra-cost option. The 2014 Forester will jump to the head of its segment in all-wheel drive fuel economy, with the 2.5i model achieving manufacturer's fuel economy estimates of 24 mpg city / 32 mpg highway / 27 mpg combined. Those figures compare well with competitors that feature front-wheel drive.

The 2014 Subaru Forester 2.5i model will be available in base, Premium, Limited and top-line Touring versions. The turbocharged Forester 2.0XT will be offered in the Premium and Touring versions. The Forester 2.5i models are powered by a 170-horsepower 2.5-liter 4-cylinder BOXER engine that debuted in the outgoing model.

Playing major roles in the Subaru Forester models' increased fuel economy are a new six-speed manual transmission in the 2.5i models and an available Lineartronic® continuously variable transmission (CVT). On the 2.0XT models, the CVT is standard and offers 6-speed and 8-speed manual shift modes with steering wheel paddle switches. High-line 2014 Forester models equipped with the CVT also feature new Hill Descent Control and a new X-Mode control feature, which provides extra control in certain driving conditions.

The Subaru Forester's four-wheel independent suspension system delivers agile handling and a highly compliant ride quality. The 8.7 inches of ground clearance for all 2014 Forester models is higher than for many crossovers and SUVs, yet the Forester maintains a comfortably low step-in height, enhanced in the 2014 model with side sills that are 2 inches lower than before.

The 2014 Forester debuts new amenities and conveniences, along with more upscale luxury features on high-line models. All but the base 2.5i model now have a standard rear vision camera and color multi-function display. New available features include a power rear gate with automatic close and Keyless Access and Start and the EyeSight driver assist system. The available navigation system features smartphone integration with Aha® smartphone integration features. The top-line Touring models come standard with a navigation system and 440-watt harman/kardon® audio system.

Bold Design With Added Function

The 2014 Subaru Forester preserves the optimal blend of SUV capability and car-like ride and handling that have made this compact SUV one of Subaru's best-selling models since the brand introduced it for model year 1998. The 2014 Forester combines evolutionary design themes with sharply defined new details in an all-new body. The "hawkeye" headlights and a slightly taller, hexagonal shape grille anchor the bolder front-end design. The 2.0XT models get an exclusive aggressive looking sport design front bumper, along with a one-piece mesh style grille and, on the 2.0XT Touring, chrome-rimmed fog light bezels.

All 2014 Subaru Forester models feature black side cladding and body-color door handles. The sporty Forester design for 2014 incorporates several functional benefits. All models use an aluminum hood for lighter weight. The A-pillar is moved forward compared to the outgoing model, yet Subaru also improved forward visibility, which was already a Forester strong point. New partitioned front door side glass, along with door-mounted mirrors, help improve side visibility and reduce potential sources of wind noise. On the Forester 2.0XT models, the hood scoop used to supply air to the previous Subaru Forester turbo model's intercooler has been replaced by under-hood ducting, which also enhances forward visibility.

Increased Comfort and Versatility

The 2014 Forester is built on a new platform featuring a 0.9-inch longer wheelbase (now 103.9 inches). Vehicle length is increased by just 1.4 in. and width by 0.6-in., yet thanks to Subaru's mastery of efficient vehicle packaging, the 2014 Forester offers notable gains in roominess. The efficient packaging also pays dividends in maneuverability - long a Subaru Forester hallmark - evidenced by the vehicle's tight 34.8-ft. turning circle.

The all-new interior design capitalizes on the increased roominess by also emphasizing a feeling of greater spaciousness. A longer distance between the front occupants and instrument panel, along with horizontal design elements, give the Forester a more open feel. All models feature a standard tilt/telescoping steering column.

The new front seats use a new type of cushion spring array to enhance long-distance comfort. The 2.5i Limited and Touring models feature a reclining rear seatback and a rear seat fold-down center armrest with dual cupholders. The front seat hip point is 1.1-in. higher than before, and the driver's seat height adjustment offers an additional 0.6-in. of range, along with 1.3-in. greater fore-aft seat cushion adjustment range.

The longer wheelbase and specially shaped front seat backs have increased Forester's rear seat legroom to 41.7 inches, up from 38.0 inches, to now rival that of some larger vehicles. Along with increasing legroom, Subaru improved comfort and room for the center rear seat passenger by raising the hip point by 1.4 inch, lowering the center tunnel by 2.6-in. and by reducing the length of the front center console by nearly four inches.

Combined with increased hip and shoulder room, those changes give the 2014 Subaru Forester exemplary three-across rear seating comfort. Wider-opening rear doors aid ingress/egress, and also help make it easier to install a child seat. Tether anchors located on the rear of the seatback also help make it easier to install a child seat in the 2014 Forester.

Aided by a flatter load floor, maximum rear cargo area capacity with the standard 60/40 split rear seats folded is increased to 74.7 cu. ft., up from 68.3 cu. ft. in the outgoing Forester. The 2014 models with the power moonroof see a cargo area increase to 68.5 cu. ft., up from 63.0 cu. ft.

New Powertrains Boost Performance and Economy

The Subaru Forester 2.5i models continue with the double-overhead-cam (DOHC) 2.5-liter FB series BOXER engine that debuted in the outgoing model. This engine produces 170 horsepower and 174 lb.-ft. of torque. Matched to either the standard 6-speed manual transmission or the CVT, the 2.5-liter engine gives the Forester excellent response in everyday driving, with emphasis on low and mid-range torque.

The 2014 Subaru Forester 2.0XT models use a new turbocharged variant of the FA-Series BOXER engine that debuted in the Subaru BRZ sports car. In the 2014 Forester 2.0XT models, the 2.0-liter, four-cylinder BOXER uses a combination of direct fuel injection, high compression (10.6:1), Subaru Dual Active Valve Control System (D-AVCS) and turbocharging with an intercooler to achieve outstanding performance and high efficiency. The Forester 2.0XT engine produces 250 horsepower at 5,600 rpm, accompanied by a broad torque curve that peaks at 258 lb.-ft. over a 2,000-4,800 rpm engine speed range.

The CVT in the 2.5i models and high-torque CVT in the 2.0XT models use new adaptive control. Based on vehicle inputs received by the transmission control module, pulley gear ratios are continually optimized based on driving preferences and road conditions. The 2.0XT models feature paddle shift controls for the CVT. The 2.5i models with the CVT include a driver-selectable low shift mode, which can provide additional engine braking when traveling down a grade.

The Subaru Forester 2.5i models have a single exhaust outlet, while the 2.0XT versions feature a dual outlet exhaust with stainless steel tips. All 2014 Forester models feature a new low-oil level indicator.

SI-DRIVE: More Control over Performance

Exclusive to the 2.0XT models, Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-DRIVE) is an engine performance management system that allows the driver to tailor the vehicle's driving characteristics by choosing from among three selectable modes - "Intelligent," "Sport" and "Sport Sharp" - using a switch on the steering wheel.

With Intelligent mode selected, SI-DRIVE provides a more relaxed throttle response curve, making it useful for commuting in traffic, for example. "Sport" mode provides quick throttle responses and powerful, linear acceleration and also accesses a 6-speed manual mode for the CVT, using steering wheel paddle shift control switches. In "Sport Sharp" mode, SI-DRIVE modifies the engine's electronic throttle mapping to deliver even quicker throttle response and provides an 8-speed manual mode for the CVT.

Agile Handling, Smooth Ride

The 2014 Subaru Forester builds on the reputation for agility and smooth ride quality firmly established by the previous Forester models. The front strut suspension and double-wishbone rear suspension have been retuned for the new model, and on all versions, the rear suspension gains pillow ball joint mounts for the lateral links. The 2.0XT models deliver even sharper handling responses from a sport-tuned suspension, with front springs 10-percent stiffer and rear springs 20-percent stiffer than those on the 2.5i models, along with exclusive chassis reinforcements. In addition, the 2.0XT models use larger brakes than the 2.5i models, with ventilated rotors front and rear.

For all 2014 Forester models, a new Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) system contributes to fuel efficiency and also provides excellent feedback to the driver. The Subaru Forester 2.5i base model now rides on standard 17-inch steel wheels, up from the 16-inch wheels used on the previous model. The 2.5i Premium has standard 17-inch alloy wheels, and 2.0XT models exclusively use 18-inch alloy wheels with a machine finish.

Standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive with Off-Pavement Control Systems

The 2014 Forester models feature two versions of Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, each of which continuously powers all four wheels and can transfer more power to the wheels with the best grip. Both versions of Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive integrate the Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) system to further enhance all-weather stability and traction, but they do not rely on VDC to distribute power, as some other AWD systems do.

Subaru Forester 2.5i models equipped with the 6-speed manual transmission utilize a viscous-coupling locking center differential that distributes power 50:50, transferring more power to the wheels with the best traction should slippage occur.

In all Forester models with the Lineartronic CVT, an electronically managed continuously variable transfer clutch actively manages power distribution based on acceleration, deceleration, cornering and available traction. This Active All-Wheel Drive system automatically transfers more power to the wheels with the best grip should slippage occur. In the 2014 Subaru Forester, the Active All-Wheel Drive system has been enhanced for more confident vehicle control when turning on slippery surfaces or changing lanes at highway speeds. Taking input signals for steering wheel angle, yaw rate, and lateral acceleration from the Vehicle Dynamics System, Active AWD responds to the vehicle's slip angle when turning.

In the Forester 2.5i Limited and Touring and all 2.0XT models, a new X-Mode feature provides optimized control of the engine, transmission shift pattern, Active AWD front/rear clutching force, brakes, VDC and other critical systems to provide better wheel control on slippery surfaces and steep inclines.

Also in those models, Hill Descent Control, which is automatically engaged with the X-mode, uses the VDC system to help maintain a constant vehicle speed when the Forester is travelling downhill to help enhance control.

Safety: Building on Proven Strengths

The Subaru Forester has established a distinguished reputation for safety, backed up by achieving the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety "Top Safety Pick" rating over many years. The 2014 Subaru Forester builds on that record and continues to be built around the company's proven Ring-Shaped Reinforcement Frame safety structure.

New safety features for the 2014 Forester include anti-whiplash front seats, a driver's knee airbag, Brake Override and an impact-sensing fuel system cutoff. With the front seats engineered to help protect the occupants from whiplash injuries in a rear collision, the active front seat head restraints of the outgoing model are no longer used, enhancing comfort. The Brake Override system cuts engine power if the driver applies both the brake and accelerator beyond a certain threshold. During an airbag deployment, the new impact sensor cuts fuel supply to the engine.

All Forester models for 2014 feature as standard equipment front seat side impact air bags and side curtain air bags that offer additional head protection for front and rear occupants. Intelligent dual-stage deployment front air bags use sensors to determine front air bag deployment strength for optimal occupant protection. A rollover sensor activates the seat belt pre-tensioners and deploys the curtain airbags if it detects potential vehicle rollover.

EyeSight® Driver-Assist System

The 2014 Forester will offer Subaru's new EyeSight® driver-assist system, which debuted on the 2013 Legacy® and Outback® models. EyeSight, which will be available as an option on the 2.5i and 2.0XT Touring models, integrates Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking and Vehicle Lane Departure Warning. EyeSight uses a stereo camera system developed by Subaru to provide a detection angle wider than that of radar-based systems.

New User Technology

Standard and high-line multi-information displays will be offered on the 2014 Subaru Forester. The basic version, in the 2.5i model, uses a 4.3-inch LCD screen to relay outside temperature, road surface freeze warning and a selection of fuel economy displays.

The high-line multi-information display, used in all other 2014 Forester models, adds, among other features, a color display for the standard rear vision camera, audio and Bluetooth information, climate control displays, vehicle self-check and maintenance reminder and, where applicable, X-Mode and Hill Descent Control operation.

The 2014 Forester offers infotainment upgrades over the outgoing model, with Premium and Limited versions getting a new standard audio system featuring six speakers, AM/FM stereo HD Radio™ and the ability to play music from CD, Bluetooth® audio streaming, iPod® and other media players.

Available for the 2014 Subaru Forester Premium and Limited versions and standard for the Touring models, the optional navigation system provides a 6.1-inch LCD touch screen, voice-activated controls and Aha® smartphone integration features, including radio stations, newsfeeds, audiobooks and more. Additional features include iTunes® tagging, Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity, SMS Text Messaging Capability, XM® Satellite Radio and XM NavTraffic® (subscription required for XM services). The Forester 2.5i and 2.0 XT Touring models further upgrade that system with a harman/kardon 440-watt amplifier and eight harman/kardon speakers.

Renowned Subaru Value

In addition to making Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive standard on all Forester models, Subaru has equipped the 2014 versions with the largest array of amenities and conveniences ever offered in this SUV. The base Subaru Forester 2.5i model comes equipped as standard with a 6-speed manual transmission, 17-inch wheels, Incline Start Assist, outside temperature display, security system with engine immobilizer, carpeted floor mats, multi-function display with readouts for outside temperature and fuel economy, Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity and audio streaming with steering wheel control switches, tilt/telescopic steering column, and much more.

2014 Subaru Forester

Subaru's brand statement "Confidence in Motion" is the foundation of the brand's automobile development. Subaru is committed to engineering excellence and "Enjoyment and Peace of Mind" and to create products in harmony with customer lifestyles and values. The new Forester is also a product embodying Subaru's brand direction.

Subaru defines the value of a true SUV as : providing user-friendly versatile utilities ; fun-to-drive character and ride comfort for long distances, even under harsh conditions; and stress-free driving. To realize this, both driving performance and ride quality were highly improved by adopting Subaru's latest technologies together with the enhanced body rigidity.

Excellent fuel efficiency and safety performance realize a "Peace of Mind" driving experience. Interior comfort and functionality have been further refined to provide a vehicle that is "fun-to-use" as an SUV. While maintaining a high-level of basic vehicle performance, a new AWD control system delivers not only "fun to drive" characteristics but comfortable and confident driving in all road conditions.

Exterior Design

The all-new Forester was designed with SUV-like powerful eye-catching looks while considering better aerodynamics and functionality.

Front fascia expresses "Sportiness, Ruggedness, Peace of Mind and Confidence". The "2.0XT", direct injection turbo engine model, employs exclusive front design, accentuating its sportiness.

By extending the bottom end of the A-pillar 200 mm forward than the previous model, an elegant form has been achieved.

Designs of the front section, door panels and a rear gate express massive and powerful images. The wheel arch and wheel designs project a greater road presence and off-road capability.

Interior Design

The interior design suggests spaciousness as well as boldness and provides a powerful look as a SUV, with a quality feel due to its sophisticated shape and soft touch materials.

The instrument panel is styled to add to the spacious atmosphere.

Soft touch materials enhance the feeling of quality in the cabin.

Packaging / Utility

The cabin design was carefully considered for greater comfort and utility for all passengers.

Both roominess and a sense of openness have been achieved by redesigning the cabin , each pillar's location and floor shape in the rear section. Seating positions were also totally reviewed to provide better visibility to all passengers, compared to the previous model.

By enlarging the cargo space and rear gate opening, better utility of the cargo space has been achieved.

A new "clean side sill" design protects passengers from dirt, when getting in and out of a car by keeping the sill clean.

Wider door openings and lower side sills vastly improve ingress and egress of passengers.

A multifunction display monitor shows details of the vehicle's driving conditions to support fuel-efficient and safe driving.

Sturdy and functional roof rails are optional.

Hill start assist function has also been adopted. When the vehicle stops on any hill, braking will be kept to maintain vehicle's position temporarily as the driver takes off the brake. Due to this function, driver can easily start the vehicle on a slope.

A powerlift tailgate allows automatic opening and closing. The opening height of the tailgate can be adjusted so that the tailgate does not hit a garage ceiling, for example. Obstacles can also be detected during opening and closing.

Driveability

The layout of Subaru Symmetrical AWD system with low center of gravity and superior weight balance has embodied compliant ride quality in various road conditions.

By combining the new generation Boxer engine with Lineartronic, both high engine output and good fuel efficiency have been achieved.

Further increased rigidity of body and chassis provides comfortable driving with "Peace of Mind" for every driver.

2.0-liter, DOHC, Horizontally-Opposed, 4-cylinder, petrol engine

A new generation Boxer engine achieves both fast engine response and high fuel efficiency.

Improved low to mid speed torque was adopted with a focus on manageability in practical use.

2.0-liter, DOHC, Horizontally-Opposed, Direct Injection Turbocharged, 4-cylinder, petrol engine "DIT"

Subaru's own direct injection turbo technology was adopted for the new generation Boxer engine. By injecting fuel directly into cylinders, combustion efficiency was improved, resulting in both high engine output and fuel efficiency.

By employing the newly developed twin scroll type turbo charger with superior response at low engine speed, high performance with high engine output and torque was achieved at 206kW (280PS) and 350Nm @ 2000rpm. It also has good environmental friendliness.

Transmission - Lineartronic (CVT)

Further advancing the benefits of Chain-driven CVT such as lightness, compactness, superior fuel efficiency and wide ratio coverage, Subaru has adopted a CVT with improved driveability and environmental friendliness by optimizing the parts and layouts.

The new Lineartronic was applied for higher torque of the newly developed 2.0-liter Horizontally-Opposed direct injection turbo engine. Some parts such as the torque converter and chains were modified to endure high performance of the direct injection turbo engine.

Body & chassis

In pursuit of a linear response and secure driveability while absorbing any road surface irregularities, the rigidity of key points in chassis & body have been improved. Agile handling, comfortable driving and noise reduction have been achieved while body roll was minimized.

The chassis was tuned exclusively for the turbo-charged model. Suspension rigidity was reinforced for better stability during high speed driving. Vehicle sway was minimized due to damper tuning and enlarged stabilizer diameter, turbo models offer superior stability when changing lanes and cornering.

X-MODE

The new AWD control system "X-MODE" has been developed for the driving on uneven or slippery road condition. Engine, Transmission and VDC are controlled cooperatively.

The system simulates various road conditions. By pushing "X-MODE" button, any driver can use the system easily and make the vehicle stable.

The system also has the hill descent control mode which can maintain the same vehicle speed when driving down a steep hill.

SI-DRIVE

SI-DRIVE which is effective for both driving pleasure and fuel-efficient driving was adopted. It has "Intelligent mode" and "Sports mode". Driver can use either of them as the situation demands. The SI-DRIVE switch was equipped on the steering for easy operation.

The "SI-DRIVE" was finely tuned for the models with DIT engine. It has "Intelligent mode", "Sports mode" and "S# (Sports sharp) mode". In case of Sport# (S#) mode, the driver can shift between 8 steps. In addition to the smooth shift change of the CVT, the driver can enjoy sportier driving by selecting the mode with direct feeling like AT or MT vehicles.

Safety

Subaru's unique driving assist system "EyeSight (version II)" is available for both Turbo and Non-turbo models.

By using high tensile steel effectively for the body structure, the body has been reduced in weight while attaining high rigidity. Superior crash safety performance has also been achieved.

The all-new Lexus IS model range made its European debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. Due to be launched by mid-2013, the range includes the IS 300h - the first IS to feature Lexus Hybrid Drive - and the rear-wheel drive IS 250, as well as a further evolution of the F Sport package, available for both models.

Driving performance is considered the single most important element of sport sedan ownership by D-premium segment customers. In conjunction with a dramatic new design featuring the Lexus spindle grille, the new IS has been engineered to provide outstanding dynamic capabilities and driving experience.

2014 Lexus IS

'We adopted an entirely different approach to the development of the new IS' said Junichi Furuyama, IS Chief Engineer. 'Rather than developing each individual aspect in the hope that they will combine to offer an engaging driving experience, we first established the pleasurable driving experience owners desire as our major premise, and then we developed the individual performance elements to support it.'

'Every aspect of the new IS has been engineered with a renewed focus on the sporting performance, agile handling, accurate response to driver input and highly communicative feedback.'

The new Lexus IS also showcases an all-new interior that combines all the refinement and quality expected of any Lexus, with a more sporting, focused driver's environment, a significant improvement in rear seat space for best-in-class roominess, and a larger, more convenient luggage compartment.

A RESOLUTE LOOK

The dramatic design, sleek surfacing and tight, sporting proportions of the all-new IS perfectly reflect the significant advances made to the dynamic capabilities and driving performance of the Lexus premium compact sedan.

At 4,665 mm overall, the new Lexus IS is 80 mm longer and 10 mm wider than its predecessor. The front overhang has increased by just 10 mm, and the wheelbase has been extended by 70 mm to 2,800 mm.

Following the new generation GS, ES and LS models, the all-new IS features the sophisticated dynamism of the Lexus spindle grille frontal design, awarding the compact sedan a combination of aggressive elegance, a more powerful road presence and a stronger brand identity.

Beneath a new pop-up hood design which allows for the lowest possible vehicle front profile whilst optimising pedestrian impact protection, the grille is flanked by headlamp clusters clearly positioned on a higher plane than the grille itself.

The new, powerfully articulated headlamp is underscored by Lexus trademark L-shaped LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL) located independently below the cluster, giving the new IS a unique, highly distinctive visual signature.

In profile, the strong horizontal beltline creates the impression of larger rear tyres and a lowered centre of gravity. The mass of the cabin itself appears to be concentrated rearwards, visually applying weight to the rear tyres to enhance the perception of traction. A rising crease line flowing from the lower body, through the rear wheel arch and into the rear lamp clusters adds further dynamism to the sweeping elegance of the sedan's sporting profile.

The clean, elegant, coupe-like lines of the new IS are further enhanced by a rear wheel arch hemming treatment which gives the tyre greater prominence by allowing it to be placed 5 mm further outboard and closer to the wheel arch, and a laser-brazed roof structure which joins the roof and side members without the need for an unsightly roof drip moulding.

INTERIOR DESIGN

The clean, horizontal theme of the new Lexus IS interior design is bisected by the strong upward sweep of the centre console, creating a snug, focused, ergonomically ideal environment from within which the driver can fully exploit the new Lexus compact sedan's superb driving dynamics.

The newly designed, quilted driver's seat offers greater comfort and better lateral support. The seat hip point has been lowered by 20 mm. The new, LFA-inspired, 3-spoke, 370 mm diameter steering wheel features a new paddle shift switch shape for easier, more accurate operation, and improved ergonomics to the wheel-mounted switchgear.

The angle of the wheel has been lowered 3 degrees, and steering reach adjustment has been increased by 23 mm, creating a more sporting driving position.

With 50 mm of its 70 mm longer wheelbase dedicated to increased rear seat space and 20 mm dedicated to increased luggage capacity, the new, 10 mm wider IS offers rear seat occupants significantly increased levels of comfort. The combination of extended wheelbase and a thinner front seat design generates an 85 mm increase in knee room for the new, 60:40 split/folding seats. And a 20 mm increase in the gap between the B pillar and the front corner of the seat improves accessibility.

Throughout the interior, high quality materials and finishes convey contemporary, premium look and feel, with a level of craftsmanship and attention to detail for which Lexus is globally renowned. Soft touch finishes abound, including knee pads either side of the centre console for increased driver and front passenger comfort.

The new IS follows the GS and LS in adopting a Drive Mode Select system, with meter illumination and multi-information display design changing from blue to red in sports driving modes, along with the switching of the hybrid system indicator to a tachometer in the IS 300h.

Dual-zone Air Conditioning with Electrostatic Switches

The new IS features a dual-zone air conditioning system with touch-sensitive, electrostatic switches to control the air conditioning temperature. Sliding a finger up or down the bar shaped switch allows for temperature adjustment in 0.5 degree increments. Temperature can also be adjusted by simply pressing the top or bottom half of the switch or the arrow markings.

Advanced Multimedia Systems

Two types of multimedia system are available for use in conjunction with the high-resolution 7" full colour display, Lexus Display Audio (LDA) and Electro Multi Vision Navigation (EMVN).

The EMVN system is operated via a second generation Lexus Remote Touch Interface (RTI) multi-function control device, which has been enhanced for increased user-friendliness and ease of operation.

iPod functionality and interface quality has been enhanced; via USB port connectivity, the iPod menu can now be driven from the vehicle's steering wheel control switches, and album cover art displayed on the 7" multimedia screen.

Premium Sound System

The new Lexus IS is fitted with a sound system representing the next generation of realism and clarity in Lexus sound. It features a fully digital, Class-D, 6 or 8 channel amplifier capable of creating virtually distortion-free sound with minimal voltage losses. The natural sound dynamics and rich harmonies generated by the high definition amplification are faithfully reproduced by an enhanced, 6 or 8-speaker layout which features a new, 55 mm wide-range tweeter.

Mark Levinson® Premium Surround System

Available with the new IS's EMVN system, the Mark Levinson® Premium Surround System creates sound based on the concepts of Effortless Dynamics and Effortless Transient Response, which combine natural dynamics with high response and tracking performance to offer sound quality equivalent to that of a live, concert hall performance.

Using the same technologies as those found in top-end home audio systems, it features a 12 channel fully digital Class-D amplifier generating a total output of 835 Watts through 15 GreenEdgeTM high-efficiency loudspeakers. A new Auto Volume system automatically adjusts system volume for each song being played to ensure consistent volume levels and full audibility for even the quietest passages of music.

Developing twice the volume for the same power consumption, GreenEdgeTM power-saving technology has been incorporated into each of the 15 speakers. GreenEdgeTM technology covers a wider frequency band than conventional systems, giving an enhanced dynamic range.

POWERTRAINS

The new IS will be available in Europe in two versions - the 2.5 litre V6 petrol engined IS 250 and the IS 300h: the first IS model to feature Lexus Hybrid Drive.

IS 300h

Reinforcing the company's commitment to the future of full hybrid drive technology, the new Lexus IS 300h is equipped with a second generation Lexus Hybrid Drive system, which offers significant reductions in fuel consumption and CO2, NOx and particulate (PM) emissions, with no loss of performance.

The full hybrid drive system combines a powerful 105 kW/143 DIN hp electric motor with a newly developed, 2.5 litre, 133 kW/181 DIN hp, four-cylinder Atkinson cycle petrol engine featuring a next generation D-4S fuel injection system, Dual VVT-i and a high-efficiency Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system.

With the rear wheels driven through the hybrid system's Electric Continuously Variable Transmission (E-CVT), total system power is 164 kW/223 DIN hp. The new IS 300h combines a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 8.3 seconds and a maximum speed of 200 km/h.

Conversely, the new Lexus full hybrid returns an average fuel consumption of 4.3 l/100 km, and class-leading CO2 emissions from 99 g/km.

The new IS 300h is also the first Lexus full hybrid to install the battery beneath the luggage deck board, offering compartment capacity on a par with that of petrol engine models.

Sequential Shiftmatic

The IS 300h's transmission can also act as a sequential shiftmatic system operated via steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. The system has been tuned to more closely match engine speed increases in line with vehicle acceleration. Under deceleration, engine braking force is delivered in six steps, with a shift feel similar to that of a manual transmission. In combination, these E-CVT enhancements offer drivers a more engaging driving experience.

Active Sound Control (ASC)

The driving experience is further enhanced through the adoption of Active Sound Control (ASC); a new technology that compliments the engine sound with audio sound through a dedicated loudspeaker, delivering the engine sounds of acceleration and deceleration even when the engine is turned off and the full hybrid IS 300h is operating under electric motor power alone.

IS 250

The new IS 250 will be available in Europe with the rear-wheel drive version of the 2.5 litre V6 petrol engine. It develops 152 kW/207 DIN hp at 6,400 rpm and 250 Nm of torque at 4,800 rpm, accelerating the IS 250 from 0-100 km/h in 8.1 seconds and giving a maximum speed of 225 km/h.

Carried over from the current IS 250, the chain-driven double overhead camshaft, 24 valve, 2,499 cc V6 petrol engine is of a particularly compact and lightweight design. Weight reduction measures include the use of an aluminium die-cast cylinder block and intake manifold, and a resin-made intake chamber. The overall engine assembly is made even lighter and more compact through the installation of the water and oil pumps within the chain cover.

The V6 features D-4 direct injection and Dual VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing-intelligent) to both intake and exhaust camshafts, enhancing engine performance.

6-Speed Super Electronically Controlled Transmission (ECT)

The IS 250's '6 Super ECT' close-ratio 6-speed automatic transmission features a sequential manual shifting mode. It incorporates numerous technologies including faster shift speeds, earlier torque converter lock-up and downshift throttle blips to support the range of driving modes available through the Drive Mode Select system.

DRIVING DYNAMICS

The target of segment-leading driving enjoyment has been at the heart of the new IS development programme, and -sacrificing none of the quietness and comfort inherent in any Lexus- every aspect of the new compact sedan's driving dynamics has been painstakingly engineered to that end.

The new bodyshell is lighter, yet more rigid than its predecessor. The front suspension system has been revised, and an all new rear suspension system adopted, combining outstanding grip performance with excellent response to steering inputs.

A new steering system offers a lighter, smoother, more accurate steering feel with enhanced response to inputs and greater feedback to the driver.

A new Drive Mode Select system features up to five switchable driving modes- EV (IS 300h only), ECO, NORMAL, SPORT/SPORT S and SPORT S+, to optimise the driver's preferred combination of economy, comfort, performance and handling characteristics.

F SPORT

Lexus IS F Sport models may be instantly recognised by an exclusive grille and front bumper design. The 'waistline' of the grille is higher than on standard models, increasing the area of the lower grille to make it capable of drawing in a larger volume of cooling air appropriate to a sporting performance.

The grille itself has a unique, L-shaped mesh finish and the lower section is trimmed with a more prominent chrome-plated trim than that of the standard IS.

The bottom corners of the front bumpers feature LED foglamps and F Sport-exclusive aerodynamic detailing to provide both downforce and enhanced brake cooling. Unique 18" wheels feature a Y-spoke design and a dark premium metallic coated finish which identifies them with the LFA bloodline.

F Sport models are available in a choice of eight exterior colours of which two, Ultrasonic Blue and White Nova, are exclusive. White Nova has been developed exclusively to reflect the pure, sporting nature of the marque, as represented by the LFA supercar.

On board, F Sport models inherit the Innovate driver's meter with moving centre ring from the LFA. An exclusive, highly supportive sports seat design uses an 'integrated foaming' construction method, ensuring that there are no gaps between seat upholstery and foam padding to combine excellent comfort with outstanding lateral holding performance.

Bespoke interior trim detailing includes an F Sport steering wheel and shift knob finished in perforated leather, metal film 3-D-effect ornamentation, black seat stitching, and aluminium pedals and scuff plates. A choice of two interior colour schemes includes a new Dark Rose finish which is exclusive to F Sport.

Both the front and rear suspension systems and the Electric Power Steering (EPS) are exclusively tuned for the F Sport package, enhancing IS handling performance without detriment to ride quality.

An Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) system is an option exclusive to the IS 300h F Sport. The system allows the driver to fine tune the IS F Sport's ride characteristics with a choice of two damper settings; 'Normal' mode, for everyday driving comfort, and Sport S+ mode, for improved body control and precise responses to steering input whilst cornering.

ADVANCED SAFETY

Every Lexus is designed to offer the very highest levels of active, passive and preventive safety. Incorporating Lexus' unique Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system, the new IS model range builds on the already superior safety performance of the current generation model with the addition of several, advanced new active safety features.

They include an Automatic High Beam (AHB) headlamp system, a Lane Departure Alert (LDA) system, a Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) and a Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) system.

The new IS is also equipped with a sophisticated Pre-Crash System (PCS) which offers drivers collision avoidance assistance that is effective in helping mitigate even high-speed collisions.

Within a highly rigid body structure of exceptional car-to-car impact compatibility, no less than 8 airbags are fitted as standard, and a newly developed pop-up hood design allows for the lowest possible vehicle front profile whilst optimising pedestrian impact protection.

2014 Mitsubishi Outlander US-Version

Powered by either a refined 2.4-liter inline-4-cylinder (Outlander ES and SE models; Outlander SE starting net MSRP is only $23,795 - a $200 savings from last year's SE model) or a workhorse yet fuel-efficient 3.0-liter V-6 (Outlander GT model; starting net MSRP is a full $800 less than last year's comparable GT model at $27,795), The all-new 2014 Outlander is latest CUV offering by Mitsubishi Motors providing the ideal blend of exquisite styling, performance, ecology and comfort - all at a very affordable price point. Mitsubishi 4WD heritage is showcased in the availability of Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) with the mid-grade Outlander SE model and standard on the high-grade Outlander GT model.

Making an important contribution to the new 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander's efficiency and eco-friendly nature is a new driver-activated ECO-mode setting that is standard on all 2014 Outlander models. ECO-mode helps to further reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by slightly reducing engine power on initial acceleration as well as the airflow volume of the air conditioning. Furthermore, when Outlander models equipped with Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) are driven with 4WD engaged, the driver-activated ECO-mode will allow the vehicle to function as a 2WD vehicle until sensors instantaneously reactivate 4WD when deemed necessary (poor road or weather conditions, etc.).

Inspired Aesthetics, Both Inside and Out

With its eye-catching, thoroughly modern all-new sheet-metal design, the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander is one of the most aerodynamically-efficient vehicles in its class and represents a full 7% reduction in aerodynamic drag (down to a Cd of only 0.33 - very streamlined for a crossover/SUV) when compared to the previous-generation Outlander.

Much of the credit for this wind-cheating low-drag configuration goes to the streamlined and much tidier in appearance front fascia. This new-look front end treatment emphasizes aerodynamic efficiency just as much as it does a crisp and clean design aesthetic.

Another great contributor to the new 2014 Outlander's excellent fuel economy is the extensive use of highly-tensile steel in the car's body; it now tips the scales about 200 pounds less than the body of the previous-generation vehicle.

Not to be outdone, the new 2014 Outlander's clean, contemporary-looking interior receives an entirely new makeover as well that features vastly improved premium surfaces and high-grade materials including a soft-touch instrument panel, attractive high-gloss piano black center console panel and, standard in the top-level Outlander GT model, rich wood grain appearance trim.

Helping to make the cabin exceptionally quiet is an abundant use of high-grade sound insulation material throughout the vehicle. And for additional comfort and improved ergonomics, all seven of the passenger seating sections have been completely reconfigured - with the designers paying particular attention to making the fold-flat seats (2nd and 3rd row seating sections; 2nd row is 60/40 folding while 3rd row is 50/50) easier to operate and allowing up to 128.6 cubic feet of passenger room.

Other points of refinement included at no cost to the consumer as part of the new 2014 Outlander's standard equipment package include automatic climate control with micron filter; tilt and telescopic steering wheel adjustment; electric power steering; redesigned steering wheel with easy-to-use cruise control and audio system controls; premium security alarm system with remote keyless entry and engine immobilizer; an exquisite-sounding 6-speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3-compatible audio system; intermittent rear wiper with washer; and halogen headlamps.

In addition to its comprehensive standard features, available options for the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander include:

- Leather seating surfaces and rich wood grain appearance trim
- Leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob
- Heated front seats
- Automatic front dual-zone climate control
- Electric power tailgate (operated via center console switch or key fob)

-  SiriusXM™ satellite radio
- MMCS Navigation system with 7-in. High Definition touch screen, voice command and SD card slot that features real-time traffic, diamond lane guidance, weather, fuel prices, 3D mapping and point-of-interest (POI) information
- Rearview camera system
- Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system with Active Front Differential (AFD)
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system
- Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM) system
- Lane Departure Warning (LDW) system
- Super-wide beam High-Intensity Discharge (S-HID) headlights

Chassis Redesign for Improved Ride Quality and Handling

Handling performance and ride quality have been improved thanks to numerous design changes to the suspension at all four corners of the vehicle.

The MacPherson strut suspension layout at the front of the vehicle features optimized and fine-tuned springs and shock absorbers as well as newly added front suspension subframes and strut top mounts for increased stiffness. These provide more well-balanced handling, stability and ride comfort as well as reduced noise, vibration and harshness (NVH).

The new multi-link rear suspension is an evolution of the former Outlander's design that includes new suspension arms for reduced unsprung weight, smoother suspension stroke and improved ride comfort; fine-tuned bushings within the trailing arms to lessen noise, vibration and harshness (NVH); and low-friction seals for the rear hub unit axels to help reduce wheel rolling resistance.

The new aluminum alloy wheels and tires on the 2014 Outlander are lighter than the wheels/tires fitted to the previous-generation Outlander for reduced rolling resistance and unsprung weight as well as helping to maximize fuel economy.

Choice of Two Efficient Yet Capable Powertrains

The new 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander offers a choice of two efficient yet capable powertrains: a 2.4-liter inline-4-cylinder engine working in concert with a technologically advanced continuously-variable transmission (CVT) or a 3.0-liter V-6 mated to a refined 6-speed automatic transmission.

Designated the 4J12, the 16-valve 2.4-liter SOHC 4-cylinder engine features an aluminum engine block and the latest version of Mitsubishi Innovative Valve-timing Electronic Control (MIVEC) variable valve-lift system for maximum power production and fuel efficiency as well as reduced exhaust emissions.

The bore and stroke of the 4J12 4-cylinder engine measure 3.5 in. (88 mm) and 3.8 in. (97 mm), respectively, and has a compression ratio of 10.5:1. Horsepower is rated at 166 bhp at 6,000 rpm with torque of 162 lb.-ft. derived at 4,200 rpm.

Improvements - including a reworking of the CVT control system and new unique ratio patterns - allow the updated continuously-variable transmission (CVT) to reduce fuel consumption and exhaust emissions while providing additional driving enjoyment thanks to better shifting feel and smoother acceleration.

The V-6 engine that powers the premium 2014 Outlander GT model, dubbed the 6B31, is a SOHC 24-valve 3.0-liter powerplant that has achieved reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions over the outgoing engine of the same configuration, thanks to reducing friction of various internal engine components, the adoption of high ignitionability iridium spark plugs and low viscosity engine oil.

Power is routed from this silky smooth yet potent V-6 engine to the wheels via an advanced 6-speed automatic transmission. Design changes to the 6-speed AT include a new final drive ratio ideally suited to the updated V-6 engine for improved fuel economy as well as a revised torque converter for better all-around transmission performance.

This V-6 engine is rated at 224 bhp at 6,250 rpm with torque at 215 lb.-ft. at 3,750 rpm with the engine making use of a 10.5:1 compression ratio.

Equipped with either the 4- or 6-cylinder engines, the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander is classified as a LEV2-ULEV ultra low emission vehicle as a result of the cleaner-burning redesigned engine and updated exhaust emission control system.

In addition to the implementation of a responsive electric power steering system (EPS), a new high-efficiency alternator is being used that helps to reduce parasitic drag on both the 4- and 6-cylinder engines. Additionally, both the 4- and 6-cylinder engines are cradled within a newly-designed engine mounting system that reduces overall noise, vibration and harshness (NVH), with the enlarged right-hand engine mount incorporating a specially-designed hydraulic chamber that further reduces transmission noise and vibration.

Sure-Footed Mitsubishi Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) on SE and GT Models

Scoring numerous titles in the challenging World Rally Championship (WRC) and several outright wins in the famous Dakar Rally, Mitsubishi has taken the research and development know-how from world-class motorsports competition to develop exceptionally capable all-wheel drive systems such as its technologically-advanced Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) for its production vehicles.

In the past, Mitsubishi's remarkably fleet-of-foot electronically-controlled Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) all-wheel drive system had been restricted to the upper echelon Outlander GT trim level. But with the introduction of the new 2014 Outlander, the company is now offering this high-tech traction and vehicle stability-enhancing feature with the mid-grade Outlander SE, making Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) available at a more affordable price point for a wider automotive buying audience.

Lighter than the previous Outlander model's system, the new 2014 Outlander's push-button-activated and electronically-controlled Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system features four distinct driving modes - the highly fuel-efficient "AWC ECO," the standard "NORMAL" setting, enhanced tractability in slippery conditions with "SNOW" and the maximum traction "LOCK."

All-Wheel Control (AWC) ECO Mode

Increases fuel economy in all-wheel drive mode by optimizing the drive application between 2WD and 4WD, operating primarily as a front-wheel drive vehicle then switching in a split-second to all-wheel drive when numerous sensors detect it is needed (depending upon road and driving conditions).

Brake Control

Steering response and vehicle stability have been enhanced through the use of a yaw control sensor to more precisely control yaw rate by applying brake pressure on the inner wheel for improved composure.

Electric Power Steering (EPS) Control

Helps to improve stability and traction in a straight line by minimizing torque steer and front wheel slip via more precise control of the Active Front Differential (AFD).

Innovative Advanced Safety Features and Systems

The new 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander features a plethora of cutting-edge vehicle safety features as part of the stylish crossover's comprehensive standard equipment package.

Mitsubishi Motors patented Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) chassis safety cell design offers an exceptional degree of protection to the vehicle's occupants by utilizing specially-designed energy absorbing sections in the body/chassis and in key areas including the engine's sub-frame and beneath the front floor section of the passenger compartment.

Additionally, injury to the driver's lower legs is reduced by a receding brake pedal protection design in the event of a high-speed frontal crash.

Furthermore, the new 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander's redesigned engine compartment hood and front fenders - along with a new open deck structure at the bottom of the windshield - offer pedestrians enhanced head protection in the event of a collision with the vehicle.

Every 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander includes Active Stability Control (ASC) with Traction Control Logic (TCL); Hill Start Assist (HSA); Tire Pressure Monitoring system (TPMS); anti-lock brakes (ABS) with brake assist and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD); and a comprehensive seven (7) air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) consisting of driver and passenger side dual-stage air bags, front seat side air bags, driver's side knee air bag, and curtain air bags for the front and 2nd row seats.

Adaptive Cruise Control

A radar-based sensor in the vehicle's front grille constantly measures distance between the Outlander and the vehicle in front of it, allowing the driver to select three different following distance settings.

Forward Collision Mitigation

A radar-based system that detects obstructions in front of the Outlander and automatically applies the brakes to help minimize a collision with the vehicle in front.

Lane Departure Warning

A camera-based system that helps to monitor lane position of the Outlander and warn the driver via visual and audio warnings should they begin to veer into the next lane.
